today
Well, it is raining today. again. It rained yesterday too. and the day before that.
Welcome to winter in Ireland, I guess. I was expecting it, and it’s really not that bad. I’m glad we bought good MEC raincoats before we left.
I start work on Monday, and I am actually looking forward to it. These three weeks off were great, and very relaxing, but I am just one of those people that have to be doing something all the time. I need a project, a challenge, a goal.
Apart from work, my other goal is to get going on volunteering and gaining experience in psychology/community work so that I can start working on my Masters. I’ve done a bit of phoning around, and I have the number of the senior psychologist at one of the hosiptals here, and the number of a counselling service, and an application to volunteer for Childline, which is the equivalent of Kids Help Phone. I’d like to take my time and choose something that will be interesting, and good relevant experience which will help me in my studies and any work I do in the future.
I came down with a head cold a few days ago, and thankfully it has been the first time I have been sick since last winter. I was amazed that even through all the stress of moving, and the month we spent travelling around before we settled in, I never even got a case of the sniffles. This time, since I wasn’t working I just stayed in and read books and drank tea all day. Dealing with being sick is so much easier when you aren’t expected to perform at your usual level in school or work.
Our stuff arrives tomorrow! yay! I think I posted this a few days ago, but it is really worth repeating. It is starting to feel like we have really arrived and settled in here.
As for my other goal of getting my book review page up and running, it is on it’s way. I have figured out how to upload a page to my site, and if you care to check out what I already have, you can click on the “No Logo” above the picture of the book. I have lots more to do with it, and more ideas for the main site itself. I went out and took a bunch of pictures of Cork on tuesday, and I will upload them soon. I am going to work on my photography skills too…I felt like the shots I took were great when I took them, and then when I went back and looked they weren’t nearly as good as I thought. sigh! I think I just need to take more time and more shots…then the odds that at least one of the bunch will turn out are higher.
I went to a really good yoga class on thursday night. the teacher looked so serene, and there was the scent of eucalyptus oil in the air. this was good because it was a bit of a challenge to breathe through my nose that day, and the eucalyptus really helped. but I think the yoga helped too. my stomach muscles were satisfyingly sore the next day. yoga was one of the things I visualized myself doing once I arrived in ireland when we were still planning the move. it feels good to be actually doing it.
