Summertime

July 5, 2007

It’s always hard to figure out what to write about after such a long absence. I feel like I’ve been away on holidays all of June, which I suppose I have been. The to-do list on my fridge is titled May, and it’s now July. There have been a lot of projects put on the back burner, but it’s summer so I guess that is to be expected.
What has been happening lately? I went to Edmonton for a week to see my friends and family there. Then I was back for a week, during which I was terribly sick. At the tail end of my cold I developed a terrible pressure and pain in my ear, which culminated in a burst eardrum and a family trip to the ER at 5am. Not so much fun, I have to say.
I spent the next week with a wodge of cotton stuffed in my ear but it really wasn’t too painful, and we headed out to Manning Park for some camping that weekend. Yep, call me crazy if you like, but I thought the worst of the pain was over and the main risk was of getting an infection, which was just as likely to happen at home. And we could always drive back if I started feeling terrible. So we camped in Manning Park for the solstice and a few days following. The weekend after that we drove out to Kelowna to visit with some friends there. And here we are now at the beginning of July.
I feel like I’ve either been away, or frantically running around the house trying to prepare to go somewhere, or cleaning up and putting everything away after getting back from somewhere. The car is still covered in crumbs and baby toys.
July will be spent fairly close to home, I think. And August looks like it will be another busy month with visiting friends, then a week for Shambhala and then it will be Beatrice’s first birthday (!).
So that’s the wide-angle picture of the past month or so. The pictures will be up soon, and I hope to write a few more stories instead of the laundry list catch-up post that I just wrote. :)
