shark-infested waters

April 30, 2003

sometimes work is fine, sometimes it’s not.

today there were sharks out.

they can smell blood. they hear it in your voice. they feel your vulnerability, they can tell you are already having a bad day. they become unreasonable. they make you personally responsible for every single thing that is wrong. they call you by your name in a tone of voice that makes you feel like a child. they make wild threats to “bring out the cannons” and “take this to the national press” and they request things like “give me the phone number of your chief executive officer, NOW.” they don’t get it out of their system until you have passed them to your male co-worker and they have been on the phone for half an hour.

What was wrong?

“Our meter is faulty, it is going too fast.”

{if a meter is faulty, it will stop. the problem here is that they are using electricity. and not even really very much.}
