rhythm

February 5, 2003

I can feel my life beginning to take on a steady rhythm.

Get up, go to work, come home, work at various things at home (garden center website, reading, cleaning, shopping), cook dinner, relax. Once these things are routine, the changes in the pattern are more novel and exciting…

when I got up to go to work yesterday, everything was covered in ice. ice!! It threw everybody for a loop, because the city is not at all designed for it. I never realized how uneven the sidewalks were until yesterday! And the first three calls I took were all from staff calling to say that they wouldn’t be in until later, or at all.

In the afternoon I went shopping in town for tom’s birthday present, and went to a cafe called the hungry elephant for a chai and banana bread afterwards. This cafe is definitely the most unique I have been to here… dark wood furniture, embroidered wall hangings, beaded pillows, good music, cool girl working there, and two low tables on a raised platform covered with cushions. You can take your shoes off and sit down in the pillows to relax. It was great…I sat reading Sartre and felt intellectual.

and I’m working from 12:15 – 5:15pm tomorrow. After three weeks of mornings (starting at 8 or 9am) I am SO looking forward to sleeping in on a weekday. :)
