the weekend:

Friday – Theatre.

– The Encyclopedia of the Dead was mostly in czechoslovakian, with sprinklings of french, english and german. It was very well acted, well produced, the musicians and costumes were great, it seemed very deep and intellectual, and I am fairly certain that it was about communism and power/freedom relationships, but I really don’t have any idea what happened or what the plot was. maybe there was no plot. it was fringe theatre after all… I should learn more european languages now that I am in europe.

Saturday – Jazz Festival

– it was pouring rain, and we didn’t want to go outside, so we didn’t. postponed plans of jazz to sunday.

Sunday – Jazz Festival (part deux)

– The jazz was quite good. we went to the Gresham Metropole (the fanciest hotel in cork) for the free afternoon sessions, and it was packed. standing room only. swinging old guys givin it on the trombone and a twelve year old boy playing his saxophone in the hotel lobby with his dad playng the piano. we could tell it was his dad because they had the same bowl-on-the-head haircut. but he was really good. We went with tom’s ex-girlfriend and her new boyfriend and her sister and her sister’s boyfriend and another couple, and I found it rather stressful. Drank beer at 2pm in true irish style.
