mind/body problem/solution
just wanted to leave a few comments on the article tom posted…
{tom thinks this is obvious, i’m not sure I agree with him. to see the full article, click on the link labeled “more” at the bottom of the entry. and if everyone knew that already, sorry for pointing out the obvious… ;o )
this idea of the mind and body as two sides of the same coin seems very intuitive to me. neither takes precedent, but both have their stregnths and weaknesses. and looking around at the world, things come with their complimentary opposite by nature. sun and moon, male and female, high and low, birth and death, order and chaos.
everything is about finding the right balance between the two opposing forces. and the tension that keeps them going.
techgnosis had an interesting idea about the internet being a counter-force to the of traditional science that has driven western society for the last couple hundred years. Instead of a clear cause-and-effect pattern which is responsive to logical thought, the internet brings chaos into the equation through the sheer size and complexity of the network. the noise in the signal increases, and we begin to use our intuition to find the patterns in the noise. the author drew the analogy that the internet was the female force to counteract the institutionalized male force of science.
