I read, therefore I am

January 23, 2003

I just finished techgnosis tonight, and it’s themes are starting to show up everywhere in my life. This tends to happen to me, especially with things that I am reading with great interest for a while, especially during interesting classes at school.

I will write a more detailed review in a few days, when I am finished really digesting it. The most notable thing about the book is the author’s ability to take on the perspective of many, many different religions and spiritual practices, no matter how obscure or bizzare. This caught me off guard at first, and I disliked the beginning because the author sounded so much like he really believed in all sorts of fringe spiritualities, cults, and technocultures. But in the end, his view is actually quite middle of the road, practical, and based on love and compassion. But definitely a patchwork view, made up of bits of this faith and bits of that one. An interesting and engaging read though: he is a thesauraus addict, or has the biggest vocabulary in the world. I had to read with the dictionary beside me for a while, and I think he made up his own words too, cause I couldn’t find them in the dictionary…
