Christmas Dinner
The cafeteria at work today had a special christmas dinner at lunch – garlic deep-fried mushrooms to start, then turkey and ham with mashed potatoes, carrots and brussel sprouts, and red cabbage (red cabbage!!) with baileys cheesecake for dessert. And the whole place was decorated to the nines…tablecloths, balloons, candles, fancy folded napkins, and christmas crackers! our table was the only table wearing our paper hats, but we didn’t care! if you are going to have a festival in the darkest month of the year, you might as well go for it with gusto!
I was quite pleased with the dinner though…it was the red cabbage that was the cherry on top.
In other news, I still haven’t finished my christmas shopping yet. I made shortbread the night before last, and it was gone that night, except for one or two that made it until the next afternoon. We are going for mulled wine and mince pies with friends tomorrow night, and I am going to make rumballs to take with us. It wouldn’t be christmas without rumballs or red cabbage, and it’s one down and one to go…
I hope everyone else is enjoying the leadup to christmas. It’s been fun so far to experience christmas in ireland…people have different traditions here – huge tins of cadburys chocolates and mince pies everywhere, but nary a peppermint candy cane to be seen. it’s all new and fun though…
