for marcie:

this girl also has an addiction to Neverwinter Nights. But she lives in Tokyo.

the internet is amazing, isn’t it?

on a related note:

as I have been surfing tonight, I have noticed that many more weblogs belong to people in the US. I am wondering what the factors are that determine who has a weblog, and why they have them.

On a night out at the pub with some workmates, I brought up the topic of the internet and how Ireland has the technology for highspeed internet but it hasn’t been deployed yet. It certainly is prohibitively expensive where it is available too…we can have adsl where we are living in cork, but it costs €300 to set up and €100 a month, and if you go with eircom, they only allow you to transmit/download a certain amount, and then they charge you something like 1/4 of a cent per megabyte over the limit. everyone here just wants to make a buck (or a euro, as the case may be).

Is it just that living in a place where high speed internet is cheap and accessible makes it more likely that someone will start a weblog? Or are americans just more self-absorbed and therefore like talking about themselves alot. (eeep, does that include me?) I think that it is a combination of accessibility, skills, and some kind of human desire to leave a mark….
