007
At this time of year I think about what I want to do, what I wanted to do that I have or have not done, and what I have done so far. Some years I look back and think, “wow, how did I get here from where I was last year?” and this was one of those years. I had an inclination that this would be a year of big changes, but I don’t think I really believed that we would end up halfway around the world again. And here we are, and it’s good.
What will the year ahead bring? What will I bring into this year? How did I do on last years goals and resolutions? Let’s have a look:
1. Family – check this one off the list, Bea arrived safe and sound.
2. Full Driving License – got this one too.
3. Yoga 3x/week – not quite, but I did keep up pretty consistently.
4. Writing 5x/week, especially dreams – nope, not even close.
5. Go out socially at least once a week – yep, I did make a effort to get out and see my friends.
6. Continue working on my Master’s & volunteering – done.
7. Eat healthy = more variety of vegetables & protien, less refined sugar – um, not quite.
8. Get involved in the dream research community – not at all.
9. Focus on cleanliness (physically, psychologically, financially) – while I was pregnant I was a busy bee cleaning and organizing, but this totally fell apart after Bea arrived.
10. Support Tom in the transition to working & choosing where we want to live – I did this, but in retrospect it seems like a cop-out resolution, like it wasn’t really mine to resolve.
Six out of ten isn’t too bad I guess.
In 2007 I want to feel organized, I want to feel like I am in control of the housecleaning and groceries and laundry, and that by having a schedule or routine for that stuff I can free up some time and mental energy for other more interesting activities. So some new resolutions are in order….
1. Be organized. – To do lists, daily routines, weekly menu planning, monthly budgets, cleaning schedules. Sounds boring, but I hope that by setting a routine I’ll just get the work done and stop worrying about it all so much.
2. Write every day – I want to get into the habit of writing a daily journal again. Even if it’s just 5 minutes at the end of the day to clack out some reflections on what happened or how I felt that day. Maybe by getting into the routine again some more interesting creative writing will germinate.
3. Yoga – It’s good for me, and I enjoy it. So I will go to weekly classes and I’d like to progress into some more advanced classes and meditation/chanting this year.
4. Cooking – This ties into goal number one, but I want to start cooking more at home. I’ve been totally allergic to going grocery shopping for the past two weeks, and even more allergic to actually cooking at home, so I have to admit that for a while there I was subsisting on bowls of cheerios and chips and salsa, which is not at all nutritious enough for someone who is supporting another person’s growth and development.
5. Mothering – This should be number one, but it is part of every other goal. Or rather, each goal feeds into my being a better mom, or at least a more organized, better fed and more patient mom. I’m going to keep going to drop in afternoons, taking baby signing classes, doing pottying and going to kindermusic with Bea. And hopefully I’ll meet a few other moms this year too.
I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday, and that whatever you are wishing for in 007 comes to you. I will leave you in 006 with a few pictures from our Christmas… (Sorry Joel, but it’s just such a great photo…. ![]()
Happy New Year!!
